Social Media serves many purposes for individuals and companies.  One of those purposes is to create PR for your subject matter/product/service post.  Another  objective of social media is to build connecting relationships that produce something.  The problem is a lot of great chats are going on but no fruit from the labor is showing up. Continue reading to turn those chats, shares, and fwds into more.

With the purpose of connecting and building public relations being brought to the forefront of Social Media here are 3 Tips to help you build strong long-lasting connections that count!

1)  First and foremost LIKE, Subscribe, Follow, Comment, and/or Share back to someone who has connected to you.  There is nothing more distasteful in a connection than someone who doesn’t Give Back 2 Pay Forward.  Plus with the way in which Google’s Algorithms truly work for page ranking, linking only counts when it is built upon by strong connections in the entire strand of linking. (See Matt Cutts video How Google Search Works on BackToTheBasicOfLife YT Channel Play List “Learning Stuff Random” ) Matt Cutts is the head of the webspam team at Google

2) When you read an article, post, or see a video that teaches you something that either you want to share or modify to use for your listeners /followers, be sure to provide a valid link to original creator of that information where you got the information from.  Ex: When I learned how to make my own background page for Twitter and Youtube from Ms. Peggy Duncan, I linked the information back to her official website and then tweeted, FB, and gave her credit on the saved videos in my playlist “Learning Random Stuff” on our YT channel.  In fact since there were 3 videos for this same learning session, I only saved two of them and added a note on the saved videos for folks to go over to Ms. Duncan’s YT channel to get the third video and let her know that E Michelle Lee sent them there.  I also encouraged them to make sure and say thank you for the valuable resource.  Wanna see how true public relations builds social media hits for you, go check it out yourself.  While you are reading my previous post about building your background page, follow all of the links and see for yourself how it should be done when you want to truly make social media work for you and how you need to Give Back 2 Pay Forward!  This add a little more time to posting, but it builds relationships that outlast the amount of time you waste just posting.  Make it count, do it with purpose.

3)  Create genuine relationships using social media business etiquette  by randomly picking someone you want to build a business relationship with, designed with a purpose in mind, and reach out to them. Be up front as to why you want to connect and let them know what you can offer back to them should they decide it is a good match that they desire to build.  Just like Kim Garst, Social Media Expert and Forbes Top 50 Social Influencer say’s in her article “Are you Robbing  Yourself’ Top 3 Social Media mistakes made by Small Business Owners  ; “If you are simply broadcasting your business products and services, you are going to turn off the majority of your prospects and your chances of starting a conversation and engaging with them is nil to none.

All to often numerous hours are spent on Twitter, FB, and other social mediums without a designed purpose.  Can you name a business transaction (purchased service or product) that has occurred solely based on your tweets/post?  OK, maybe so. Now let’s take it to the next level. In comparison to the amount of time spent on these sites to gain relationships and ultimately customers, does it equate enough revenues to justify the amount of time you spent?  Imagine Twitter is your client that you are spending time with to sell your product/service, how much would your bill be for the hours you spend with your client, Twitter?  Now tally up those numbers and be prepared to adjust how you are spending time connecting to genuine, purposeful, relationships that you are spending quality hours to connect.
