Sometimes defining what something is not is easier than defining what it is. Charity is not just adding an extra dollar in the bucket to feel good about yourself. Charity is a characteristic, a virtue, and a way of life as it should be lived everyday for one, for all, for humankind.
If we as a nation would remember that “self” is not most always important as the “group” is; we could live in more peace and prosperity amongst ourselves. That would mean, less war, less thievery, less murder, less crime, less of everything else that we want rid of. Howbeit that we go about our busy day and not remember those who need the basics of life, those who need a smile, those who need a friend, those who need another human being to care about them so they don’t fall through the cracks as we continue to think of just of ourselves.
1 Corinthians 13:13
King James Version (KJV)
13And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
Of all these things that we want, desire, and work to obtain; without charity towards mankind we as a nation lose far more beyond our minds that we can imagine. Without our hearts being geared towards others; we only think of ourselves. Make no mistake; when we as humans only think of ourselves we leave out the rest of the world and become divided in our way of life. The domino effect that this takes upon our world creates devastation in that crime increases, self-awareness puts us up on self-made pedestals and we become desensitized to the need of the collective. Through selfishness nations die. Through collective caring, nations thrive.
Far be it from me to preach a word of kindness to the deafened ear of the foolish. But mark my words, when we as a people do not care for our own. We lose the comforts of the safety created in numbers of prosperous people. Make sense? If we all are working hard together to make it through these treacherous times leaving no one behind; we will emerge a stronger, healthier, and kinder people.
Have a blessed day. Think of the kindness that you can share one to another today. You can make a difference. A legacy.
