A couple of weeks back I stopped in the middle of the street to help one of my elders in need!
I was headed out to another meeting. Always in a rush to be on time. Was taken my normal shortcut through the neighborhood; when I stopped at the stop sign to make that right hand turn.
In the corner of my eye towards my left, I saw these precious two elder ladies struggling with this flag pole while trying to put up the USA flag for Memorial Day. So naturally I did what I was supposed to do; I put the car in park and got out to help. Oh as you can tell, not before I had already snapped the photo!
After I had wiped the tears from my eyes; this huge smile was on my face. This touching scene reminded me of who was here before me; my elders. Who am I to serve; my elders. Who paved the way for me; my elders.
The tallest of the two said, “Well, we can’t figure out why after 50 years of putting up this flag, on this very pole; why it won’t work today”. So I helped my elder from the stepping stool, down, and began to investigate why the pole would not stay up. Ah,, there’s the problem; the pins were missing. I told them I would see about getting some pins for them at the local hardware store. But they beat me to it.
A couple of days went pass; I had not ventured to the store yet. But there was no need. They figured a way to get it up before I could get to the store. The next time I turned the corner at that stop sign- The Flag was up and flying in her full glory!
